چکیده

An extensive detrital zircon U-Pb data set (n = 6324 dates) from Eocene to Miocene sandstones and modern river sands establishes the onset of arc magmatism forearc uplift along Cascadia convergent margin in southwestern Oregon (United States). Middle late marine strata Coos Bay area were primarily sourced Klamath Mountains coeval Clarno-Challis volcanoes central and/or Idaho. Ancestral Cascades initiated at 40 Ma supplied sediment a broad basin western during time. Major reduction (40–12 Ma) (52–40 Tunnel Point Sandstone (ca. 33–30 records isolation due Oligocene uplift, inversion, emergence southern Coast Range. The Tarheel formation 18–15 is characterized by disappearance substantial increase recycled underlying strata. ~15–20 m.y. delay between subduction initiation 49–46 supports insights thermomechanical models that identify tectonic underplating thermally activated lower-crustal flow as major drivers deformation active regions.

The effects of rock uplift and rock resistance on river morphology in a subduction zone forearc, Oregon, USA

Relationships between riverbed morphology, concavity, rock type and rock uplift rate are examined to independently unravel the contribution of along-strike variations in lithology and rates of vertical deformation to the topographic relief of the Oregon coastal mountains. Lithologic control on river profile form is reflected by convexities and knickpoints in a number of longitudinal profiles an...

Super-scale Failure of the Southern Oregon Cascadia Margin

Using SeaBeam bathymetry and multichannel seismic reflection records we have identified three large submarine landslides on the southern Oregon Cascadia margin. The area enclosed by the three arcuate slide scarps is approximately 8000 km, and involves an estimated 12,000–16,000 km of the accretionary wedge. The three arcuate slump escarpments are nearly coincident with the continental shelf edg...

A Fluvial Record of Long-term Steady-state Uplift and Erosion across the Cascadia Forearc High, Western Washington State

Six late Quaternary river terraces, preserved along the Clearwater River in northwestern Washington State, provide a ;140 ka record of long-term incision and uplift across the western side of the Cascadia forearc high. Terrace ages are constrained by weathering rind and radiocarbon dating and by correlation to dated coastal glacio-fluvial deposits and the global eustatic curve. The terraces ove...

Large wood recruitment and redistribution in headwater streams in the southern Oregon Coast Range, U.S.A.1

Large wood recruitment and redistribution mechanisms were investigated in a 3.9 km2 basin with an oldgrowth Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco and Tsuga heterophylla (Raf.) Sarg. forest, located in the southern Coast Range of Oregon. Stream size and topographic setting strongly influenced processes that delivered wood to the channel network. In small colluvial channels draining steep hillslop...
